Alate/prune

What I miss most about my old neighborhood are the crackheads punctuating the streets at their corners, imagining themselves alate magicians soaring to the sky but in reality remained flightless on the sidewalk, unknowingly pruning the shrubs outside my window every time they flapped their “wings.”
