Today I came upon a filthy young man clutching a fascicle of dirty diapers and half-filled wine bottles, and my perverse curiosity led me to follow him. He went straight to Mr. Diapers’ shanty, gave him his offerings and laid prone with his legs in the air before him much as a baby would…a baby with soiled pants. “Mr. Diapers has an acolyte!” I thought to myself with an odd combination of fear for the future and admiration for the young man’s pluck. I wonder what will happen next…
Lady Mendl’s accomplishments included some amazing feats, the most important being her self-published series of fascicles on the art of properly drinking tea. Despite her death in July of 1950, Lady Mendl’s acolytes continue to revere these volumes of snobbery with the utmost respect.
